Do I still need birth control after menopause?
After you’ve missed your period for over a year, you’re considered menopausal and don’t need birth control. This is because your body is no longer producing an egg or the hormones required to carry a baby to term.
So what can you do? Talk to your health care provider. Some providers may recommend continuing contraceptives for two years after your last period. I’m not a big fan of birth control, but that’s just my personal choice.
Make sure you know the risks associated with whatever you choose. There is not a specific age at which you can stop using birth control. It’s based on your body and your own cycles.
