The Difference Between Hot Flashes & Night Sweats

By Michelle Garcea

Ladies, I often get this question… “Are night sweats and hot flashes the same?”

Well, there’s a new study from NAMS, the North American Society for Menopause, and they’re not the same. Hot flashes have this intense feeling of heat but last for a shorter period of time and of sweating, and there’s a huge spike in perspiration that happens really quickly.

Whereas night sweats produce copious sweating and they start gradually and last much longer. And then they tend to decline slower. They also leave you soaking wet on your bed sheets.

I hope this was helpful and make sure to check out our other articles about menopause and perimenopause.
