How Does Your Skin Change During Menopause?

Hey ladies, what happens to your skin and hair and eyes and vagina during menopause? DRYNESS. And this is a result of the decline in the hormone estrogen.

Our hormones across the board are declining. Estrogen in particular effects major systems in our body and including our skin. So estrogen also is related to the production of collagen that we know is so important for the skin. It’s an essential building block of the skin. And estrogen also is related to the production of natural oils that keep our skin moisturized.

With this lack of collagen and these natural oils, skin becomes dry and itchy and thinner. And as we age, our skin’s ability to produce oil diminishes and to retain water diminishes. So along with this we get wrinkles, and we’re going to get wrinkles around the eyes, around the lips, and then the mucosal membranes, like the eyes and the vagina are going to become drier.

So, what can we do about this?

Hydrate as much as possible, drink water. Make sure you know you can do the little test on your skin to see if you’re dehydrated. If the skin does not immediately come back down and kind of stays in the shape you’ve pulled it in, you want to make sure you’re drinking more.

Secondly, you want to make sure that you moisturize. Moisturize with 100% all natural chemical free product and you can find a few ones that don’t disrupt hormones that are all natural, chemical free, non-toxic. You want to make sure, especially for this time in your life since our hormones are changing, that you don’t have something that’s going to disrupt your your hormones like chemicals in what you put on your body.
